About the EDUFI Fellowship
The EDUFI Fellowship is a research initiative supported by grants aimed at enhancing international research partnerships in Finland. It provides financial support for 3 to 12 months to international postgraduate (doctoral-level) students who have been invited by a university in Finland. It primarily targets individuals who are beginning their PhD studies, intending to obtain a double degree, or undertaking research trips to Finland.
EDUFI Finnish Fellowship Benefits
The EDUFI Fellowship provides international doctoral candidates in Finland with a monthly stipend of €1,900 to cover living expenses. The hosting university receives the grant in a lump sum and transfers it to the fellow directly. This funding is solely for daily living costs and does not cover travel, visa, health insurance, or lodging. Each fellow can access EDUFI funding for a total of up to 12 months, which can be used continuously or across multiple shorter phases.
Eligibility Requirements
- Only university departments in Finland can submit applications, but they do this on behalf of students from abroad. If you are a student from outside Finland and have an interest in this opportunity:
- Reach out to a professor or department at a Finnish university that is open to hosting and overseeing your doctoral research.
- The applicant must possess a master’s degree and not have resided in Finland for over one year when applying.
- It is open to all nationalities and areas of study.
Important Notice for Ukrainian Students: Individuals who left Ukraine due to the war in 2022 qualify for a fellowship extension of up to 12 months, even if registered at Ukrainian universities.
Application Schedule
The EDUFI Fellowship has a continual application process with no specific cutoff date, but submit applications at least five months before your planned start date in Finland. Processing typically takes around three months, though summer delays may occur. With a success rate of 35–40%, it’s important to prepare your application carefully.
