About the Fellowship
The programme nurtures new talent and broadens the scientific community. It targets scientists who will seek tenure-track roles in the coming job cycle. Applicants need a clear scientific vision for their future independent laboratory. Fellows apply for faculty jobs in September 2027. They begin faculty roles in the 2028-2029 academic year.
What Fellows Receive
The faculty research award provides $200,000 per year for three years. This amount includes 20 percent indirect costs. Fellows may also receive a postdoctoral award of $110,000 yearly for up to two years. It includes an $85,000 stipend, a $10,000 career development allowance, and a $15,000 benefits allowance. Awards may be activated at institutions inside or outside the United States.
Who Can Apply
Applicants must hold a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD. They must hold a non-independent mentored research position, such as a postdoctoral post. They must not accept a tenure-track offer before award notification. Applicants cannot hold major PI-level federal grants. They also cannot hold other career development awards. Most successful applicants have at least one publication or preprint.
Required Materials
Applicants submit a full application through the Simons Award Manager. The proposal should resemble a faculty job application. It should focus on plans for the future lab, not a postdoctoral project. Applicants to several areas must submit separate, tailored applications.
How to Apply
Submit your application through the Simons Award Manager before January 13, 2027, at noon ET.

Conclusion
This award offers substantial funding for scientists launching independent labs. It is competitive, so applicants should tailor each submission to the scientific area. Note that this is the last call for the SCPAB area. Confirm all rules through the Simons Foundation’s official page.
