Application Components
Each applicant must provide in English the following materials:
- Completed online application form: Candidates from Partner Universities will complete this phase following their universities’ internal nomination processes.
- Personal statement (750 words maximum): Should include a self-introduction and a clear explanation of how the Yenching Academy curriculum could benefit the candidate. Please submit an English and Chinese personal statement (maximum 1,500 characters) for HMT applicants. Note that the ” template is available here.
- Statement of Research Interest (no more than 1500 words, excluding citations): Should include key research question(s), study background and/or literature summary, and academically trained study design. Note that you are not required to use this recommended project for your Master’s thesis. The Admissions Committee wants to know how you think and write about academic topics.
- Curriculum vitae (no more than two pages): For any internship experience listed in the CV, please provide internship certificates and an additional document summarizing your internships, including the company/institution, location, and direct supervisor’s name, job title, and contact information.
- Official Transcript(s): Bachelor’s degree holders pursuing a Master’s degree should upload their final transcripts and most recent transcripts. Applicants can attach transcripts to their online applications (preferred) or to colleges email yca-submissions@pku.edu.cn.
- Enrollment Diploma(s) or Certificate(s): Bachelor’s degree holders pursuing higher degrees should upload their diplomas and enrollment certificates. Currently enrolled students must finish their degrees by August 31 of the year they want to enroll. Candidates must study full-time at Yenching Academy for two years.
- Two academic recommendation letters (in English or Chinese): Peking University only accepts reference letters from full or associate professors. Your recommenders should describe your skills, character, and potential. Applicants from the HMT regions must provide letters of recommendation from professors in their specialty, such as an economics professor for Economics and Management. - Score on the English Proficiency Test 2:
- IELTS (Academic): 7.0 Overall
- TOEFL (iBT): Overall score of 100
- Cambridge English Scale (Advanced): 185 in total
- CET 6: Total 600
- TEM 4: A pass level of ” or higher is required.
- We only accept IELTS, TOEFL, and Cambridge scores directly from these organizations. When scheduling the exam, select “Yenching Academy of Peking University” as the score recipient. The institution code for TOEFL is C488.
- TOEFL and IELTS exams must be taken after September 1, 2022. We no longer accept TOEFL MyBest Scores, iBT Home Edition, IELTS Indicator, or IELTS Online.
