POSITION: Inland Steering Manager, Area West Africa

Position Overview: 

In the role of Manager, you will serve as the connecting link between Area Sales and Operations to enhance profitable Inland volume and improve the Inland product portfolio. You will assist in creating the Area Inland strategy and establish the Area-level Inland goals for the upcoming budget year (volumes, profitability, Inland share, etc.) in accordance with the Regional Inland objectives, collaborating closely with Sales, Operations, and Trade Management.

Main Duties:

Commercial Inland Navigation 

  • Create the Inland strategy for the Area and establish the Inland goals at the Area level for the upcoming budget year (volumes, profitability, Inland market share, etc.) in accordance with the Regional Inland objectives, coordinating with Sales, Operations, and Trade Management.
  • Align the commercial and operational viewpoints to enhance the Inland ambition and outcomes of the Area.
  • Formulate the Inland pricing strategy aimed at achieving comprehensive Inland profitability, which includes assessing the Inland Tariff tool and associated Inland surcharges.
  • Proactively oversee the sales pipeline for Inland prospects within your region.
  • Create campaigns and initiatives in collaboration with stakeholders to accomplish Area objectives and disseminate this information globally while effectively addressing hinterland imbalances.
  • Recognize clients with unexploited Inland opportunities and direct them to the appropriate commercial teams for follow-up.
  • Gather market and competition insights (competitors’ goals and product advancements) and consolidate market feedback from Area Sales to formulate a market-driven pricing strategy and engage in Area Sales meetings.
  • Predict inland volumes using sales and booking records to establish target mentality.
  • Monitor advancements in the Area’s Inland strategy and outline steps to guarantee that strategic initiatives are executed.
  • Establish counteractions when the goal attainment is in jeopardy.
  • Provide consistent performance updates to the Area Sales Director and Regional Inland Centre.
  • Engage in the Area Inland budgeting and forecasting process.

Inland Product Manager 

  • Collect insights on the market (from other Area Inland functions) encompassing possible transport solutions for various modes, and incorporate product requirements into the ultimate product offering.
  • Recognize Inland value propositions and assist Sales with concrete product details.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Account Managers regarding product-related Inland inquiries.
  • Lead the identification and creation of pertinent Inland products and establish the Inland network strategy by carrying out necessary analyses on areas that are underserved or overserved, equipment availability, etc.
  • Be responsible for the capacity demand forecasting reports and actively manage the availability and utilization of capacity.
  • Evaluate fixed capacity needs by examining operational and business information.
  • Assist procurement with vendor negotiations and SLA formulation to consistently enhance and expand the vendor network.
  • Develop and oversee strategic supplier partnerships.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in shipping/container navigation.
  • Strategic planner with a focus on customer needs.
  • Having experience in sales and operations within the trucking industry will be beneficial.
  • Having experience in Ghana and Senegal will be beneficial.
  • Gained practical experience in product development for trucking routes while working in the trucking or forwarding sector.
  • Focus on specifics.
  • Collaborative individual with an initiative-driven mindset
  • Capacity to perform under stress, focused on objectives and time constraints.
  • Excellent written English proficiency (knowledge of French is a bonus)
  • Strong grasp of Microsoft applications.
  • In-depth understanding of port-related applications (Navis, ICUMS, etc.) and procedural documentation.
  • The capability to operate on multiple systems at once and analyze the data.
  • Achieved successful completion of commercial training or equivalent studies in Business, Commerce, Sales, Engineering, Logistics, or related fields.
  • Multiple years of expertise in shipping, forwarding, or logistics, ideally in sales or operations.
  • Outstanding comprehension of inland transportation and ocean freight markets.
  • Thorough comprehension of measuring the performance of inland transportation.
  • Strong analytical thinking and innovative problem-solving abilities with a high degree of initiative, teamwork skills, and assertiveness.
  • Effective communicator with experience in high-level management communication.
