Job Title: Cashier 

Position Overview

BCL Group is looking for a professional, customer-focused Cashier to join our retail team in Accra. This role is essential as you will serve as the primary point of contact for our customers, directly influencing their shopping experience. You will handle all aspects of the sales transaction process with accuracy and efficiency. Moreover, you will play a key part in maintaining our store’s operational standards and ensuring a positive, welcoming environment for every visitor.

Core Responsibilities and Daily Duties

As a Cashier, your role involves a dynamic mix of customer interaction and precise operational tasks. Your key responsibilities will include the following:

  • Customer Service and Engagement: You will greet customers warmly, answer their questions, and provide helpful information about products and promotions. Consequently, you are responsible for creating a friendly and efficient checkout experience that encourages repeat business.
  • Sales Transaction Processing: A central duty is operating the electronic point of sale system to accurately process purchases, returns, and exchanges. This requires you to handle cash, card payments, and mobile money transactions with integrity.
  • Financial Management and Accuracy: You are accountable for balancing your cash drawer at the start and end of each shift. Furthermore, you must ensure all financial transactions are recorded correctly, immediately reporting any discrepancies.
  • Product Handling and Support: You will assist with light merchandising duties, such as tagging products and organizing the checkout area. Additionally, you may help customers with locating items and managing product returns according to store policy.
  • Workspace and Operational Maintenance: Maintaining a clean, organized, and fully stocked checkout station is a daily requirement. You will also ensure all equipment, like scanners and registers, is functioning properly.
  • Problem Resolution: You will use effective problem-solving skills to address customer complaints or issues at the point of sale calmly and professionally, escalating matters to a supervisor when necessary.

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

The ideal candidate for this frontline position will possess the following attributes:

  • A minimum of a Diploma, HND, or Degree in any relevant field of study.
  • Proven strong customer service orientation and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • A high level of numerical accuracy and meticulous attention to detail for handling cash and data entry.
  • Technical ability to operate various electronic equipment, including barcode scanners, POS registers, and card payment terminals.
  • The capacity to resolve routine customer issues politely and efficiently.
  • Demonstrated reliability, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Furthermore, you must be able to stand for extended periods and work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as required by the retail schedule.
  • Prior cashier or retail experience is a significant advantage, though comprehensive training will be provided.
