Job Title: Operations Assistant, Ghana
About Aquaya
The Aquaya Institute (Aquaya) is an independent, non-profit research and consulting group that works to make sure that water and sanitation in places with few resources are safe, fair, and sustainable. Our goal is to improve public health by making waterborne diseases less common. Aquaya was started in 2005 to help development agencies, governments, and implementing organizations do rigorous research, experiments, and evaluations in a reliable and flexible way.
Aquaya has finished projects in over 20 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America in the fields of public health, economics, technology development, and social entrepreneurship. We’ve written or helped to write more than 40 peer-reviewed research articles and many other reports and publications.
Aquaya maintains an office in Nairobi, Kenya. The US, Ghana, Uganda, France, Ethiopia, and Morocco also have staff members. A lot of our projects are done with the help of academic research groups and professional consultants.
About the Operations Assistant Position
For a full-time job in Accra, Ghana, we are looking for an Operations Assistant. The Operations Assistant will work with Aquaya’s operations in Ghana. They will report to the Operations Associate. The Aquaya team is made up of 40 people from seven different countries. Aquaya has 5 full-time employees in Accra and 5 full-time employees all over Ghana who work from home (Kumasi, Sunyani, Tamale). The Operations Assistant will help Aquaya get its first office space up and running in Accra.
They will also be responsible for the following tasks:
- Office management: Find suppliers and work with them (furniture, internet, cleaner, etc.). Check the mailbox at the post office and help with any printing or buying needs.
- Immigration: Make sure that your staff and consultants have travel visas and work permits.
- Legal: Work with a lawyer to make sure that policies are in line with Ghanaian law.
- Business licenses: Make sure the Accra office has the right business licenses and insurance policies.
- Benefits: Help keep benefit plans (like Social Security/pension, health insurance, etc.) up-to-date and renewed.
- Recruitment and onboarding: Recruiting support staff in Ghana and getting new hires ready to work in Ghana.
- Help with the programs: If the programs team in Ghana needs help with logistics, do things like organize events and buy technical equipment.
Criteria for the position
For this job, you need to have the following skills:
- A Bachelor’s degree.
- At least four (4) years of experience in operations, office management, or HR administration.
- Excellent ability to talk, write, and talk to other people.
- Excellent computer skills and a good understanding of how to use Microsoft Office Suite and online platforms.
- English language skills.
- Willingness to work with people in different time zones, which may mean video calls early in the morning or late at night.

Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time job, but the first 3 months are a trial run. Aquaya offers salaries that are competitive and match the level of experience. There are benefits like health insurance and a pension plan.
