Job Title: Senior Mining Engineer (Drill & Blast)

The Opportunity
Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd is now recruiting a highly skilled Senior Mining Engineer with deep specialized expertise in drill and blast operations. This critical role sits within our high-performing Technical Services team. You will report directly to the Technical Services Manager. In this position, you will provide leadership and mentorship to a team of engineers. Your primary mission will be to drive continuous improvement in all drilling and blasting activities. Ultimately, you will ensure safe and efficient ore extraction to consistently maximize production throughput.
Job Purpose
The Senior Mining Engineer will lead, optimize, and oversee all drill and blast planning and field execution. Your work will guarantee safe, efficient, and cost-effective rock breakage that directly supports our production targets and broader mine plans.
Key Responsibilities
- First, you will lead all drill and blast engineering for our open pit operations. This includes the detailed design, modeling, and ongoing optimization of all blast patterns.
- Furthermore, you will provide direct leadership, coaching, and technical guidance to your engineering team, actively fostering their professional development.
- You will ensure all drilling and blasting designs fully align with daily production targets, precise ore control objectives, and mill throughput requirements.
- Additionally, you will collaborate closely with geology, processing, and mining teams, including contractor partners, to enhance ore recovery and systematically minimize dilution.
- A core duty involves overseeing the complete planning, scheduling, and execution cycle for all drill and blast activities, always adhering to strict safety and production standards.
- You will also drive consistent improvements in our QAQC processes, blast performance reviews, and operational reporting frameworks.
- It is essential to maintain full compliance with all environmental, regulatory, and safety obligations related to explosives and blast operations.
- Moreover, you will utilize industry standard software like Deswik and OP Blast for design, analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Finally, you will prepare detailed operational plans, technical reports, and necessary budget inputs as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- A BSc in Mining Engineering from a recognized university.
- At least five years of direct drill and blast engineering experience in open-pit mining, preferably within hard rock gold operations.
- Demonstrated strong technical expertise in drilling and blasting, rock mechanics, and key blast performance factors.
- Proven proficiency with industry-standard drill and blast design software.
- An unwavering commitment to safety, environmental responsibility, and operational excellence.
- A valid blasting certificate or explosives handling certification is a strong advantage.
- Solid knowledge of relevant mining environmental regulations and sustainability practices.
- A comprehensive understanding of end-to-end open-pit mining processes.
- Possession of a valid Ghanaian driving license.
