Summary of the Job

Through performance development and coaching, build and grow a high-performing team as part of the Absa Young Africa Works Project. Make sure team members get coaching and feedback so they can grow and reach their full potential so can meet and beat sales goals.

Job Description:

Overseeing the people who bring in leads Time split: 30%

  • Help the people on your Direct Sales team do their jobs better by giving them the tools and information they need to do so.
  • Set annual sales goals and reach them by giving tasks to Lead Generators.
  • Every day, keep an eye on how Lead Generators are moving to make sure that planned meetings or activities are happening in the field.
  • Motivate your staff and make sure they know they are appreciated through Absa’s recognition programs.
  • Find out what training the team needs and make sure it gets it through on-the-job training and formal training.
  • At least once a year, send a summary of the training needs to the Project manager and the Head of SME banking. Make sure that planned training interventions happen, especially for training that is required.
  • Work with the Project Manager and the Head of SME Banking to hire team members from the list of candidates that HR and the Resource Coordinator have given you.
  • Bring on new Lead Generators and make sure they go through a formal introduction and the required compliance training.
  • Together with HR and an independent chairperson, they are directly in charge of discipline, including charges of personal misconduct or incapacity.
  • Talk about and decide on everyone on the team’s Performance Development Plans and ratings.
  • Recommend bonuses and pay raises for direct reports based on instructions from the Project Manager, the Head of SME banking, and Human Resources.
  • Give feedback on the different pay plans that are already in place.

Supervision Sales Activities Time split: 30%

  • Check on different parts of a product promotion campaign by sending materials to Lead Generators. Key messages, such as training for products and new application forms, should be sent to all staff members.
  • Track MI for the product promotion campaign period and give feedback to team members, the project manager, and in-country marketing.
  • Daily, weekly, and monthly sales monitoring and reporting to the Project Manager and
  • Head of SME Banking. Act as a point of contact for questions that the Lead Generators couldn’t answer.
  • Watch to make sure that the whole process of opening an account is done in the time that was agreed upon. To do this, teach team members how to make their applications better.
  • When Lead Generators ask, explain to customers things about the product like price, credit requirements, etc., to help with the sales process. Visit potential customers on request.
  • Every month, look at how the account is being used/drawn down and how many people are leaving.
  • Find patterns and reasons why the account isn’t doing well and make a plan to fix the problems.
  • Send any problems that keep coming up to the Project Manager and the Head of SME Banking for more help and, if necessary, escalation.

Activities to Make Sure of Compliance Time Split: 20%

  • Check the paperwork that Lead Generators have filled out every day and keep an eye on what they need to do to fix things.
  • Check the checklists that the Lead Generators have filled out, and do daily spot checks on a sample of work that each team member has put together.
  • Do document callbacks for KYC documents when the bank’s processes say to.
  • Gather information about the team’s performance, such as the accuracy and quality of applications and how well they did in sales.
  • Use the feedback to coach and direct team members, and give the Project Manager and Head of SME Banking regular summaries of the feedback.
  • Help the team of Lead Generators achieve operational excellence in all parts of the work they do by coaching them and setting up formal training for them as needed.
  • Check the process for opening each account to make sure that any changes are allowed and that they meet KYC requirements.
  • Make sure the team follows operational risk and rigor policies, such as Health & Safety standards, building security, Know Your Customer (KYC) and anti-money laundering.
  • Work with key internal service providers from different departments to make sure our customers get a smooth service.

Time Split for Teamwork: 20%

  • Build, train, and inspire a high-performing team that is committed to making the Absa Young Africa Works project a success by working with each other.
  • Make sure that AGL procedures are followed by keeping track of daily attendance levels.
  • Manage poor performance and take disciplinary or grievance issues to the next level in a professional and timely way, according to the procedures set out.
  • Together with the Project Manager, set challenging goals and measures for your team’s performance, and give regular feedback on how well they’re doing.
  • Be a good example for your team in the way you lead every day. Do things with all your heart, communicate with passion and enthusiasm, and accept change as a way to work.
  • Find people with talent on the team and make sure that high-potential employees get more chances to learn and grow.
  • Making sure that exit interviews are done on time for all employees who leave the project or bank on their own, and bringing up any problems.
  • Manage the growth of staff by using Performance Management and giving them chances to learn while working on the project.
  • Give others feedback that is honest, direct, and helpful.
  • Share what you know, what you’ve learned, and what works best with your team members and with other team leaders in the cluster.

Know-how, skill, and experience

  • Complete knowledge of all Absa Business Banking products and account opening, Know Your Customer, and other process requirements
  • A thorough understanding of KYC policies and governance needs
  • Detailed knowledge of people policies, such as Safety measures and procedures
  • A good understanding of how the bank’s departments, systems, and procedures work.
  • Knowledge of how Absa’s people policies work
  • Knowledge of the goods and services offered by competitors.

Experience/Qualifications

  • Some experience with AML and KYC processes in retail banking
  • At least two years of experience managing a sales team of a similar size, or three to four years of experience selling directly to customers.

Education

Business, Commerce, and Management Studies is part of the Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC) (Required)
