Difference Between Scholarship and Fellowship
Fellowship
It is a monetary award provided to students or researchers from many disciplines and others to research in a certain field. These are financial grants and benefits granted for research activity.
The fellowship allows students who pass the qualifying examinations and to research a topic. They are usually determined by a person’s competence, CGPA, and credentials to work in a specific sector. It is not required that the student get financial help as part of the fellowship. They may only receive an additional advantages as part of the fellowship. As a fellow of a particular college, they may be granted certain privileges, such as access to the library and other facilities.
Scholarships
A scholarship is a type of financial award provided for students in recognition of their academic achievements. It is to motivate them to improve their grades and performance. Also, It is a financial aid to students by the government, universities and organizations to help students further their education. Thus, The scholarship can be used to cover diverse costs i.e tuition and other educational expenses.
Differences
To begin with, The main distinction between a scholarship and a fellowship is that, a scholarship is given to students from elementary school to senior secondary school, or up to the bachelor’s degree level whilst Fellowships are awarded to students who research a certain discipline at institutes or universities.
Generally, Scholarship is determine by various factors such as necessity, merit amongst others. On the other hand, Fellowship is based on student merit or excellence.
Moreover, Coverage scholarships usually, pays the tuition fees. However, Fellowship can be an internship or any other type of service opportunity for the student.
Also, Financial aid is offered to help further education whilst the scholar is given grants to undertake studies on a specific topic for fellowship.
Last but not the least, A scholarship is given to students to help them with their pre-graduation studies but a fellowship is given to research scholars to help them research in a specific field. This is usually after they have completed their graduation or post-graduate studies.
Finally, Some scholarships are renewable. That is, students can apply for them again. The fellowship, on the other hand, is for a certain period of time and cannot be renewed.
