Dean of Students at Design & Technology Institute (DTI)

Job Purpose

To make sure that the students are cared for, guided, and looked after while they are at the Institute.

The Key Responsibilities

Taking charge and managing

  • Run, handle, and keep an eye on the Dean of Students’ Office and all programs that report to it.
  • Then, Set up ways to measure how well students are doing so that you can give them the coaching and counseling they need.
  • Make sure that all student events in DTI are well-organized.
  • Also, Make sure that students follow all of the rules and regulations by creating a disciplined atmosphere.
  • Make sure every student has a copy of the DTI Student Handbook and knows what’s in it.
  • Moreover, Take charge and work with the tutor(s) to make sure that all of the hostel’s needs and requirements are met.

Student Welfare

  • Always make sure kids are safe and healthy by taking the right steps.
  • Plan and coordinate the execution of a detailed student orientation program to help students get used to their new routines easily.
  • In addition, Take the initiative to talk to management and push for the start of activities that help students’ comfort and well-being.
  • Make sure that all students’ needs for accommodations are met in a timely and acceptable way.
  • Work with the Facilities Manager to make sure that students follow health and safety rules in their dorms or hotels.
  • Lastly, Take care of emergencies and crises that affect students and school life.

Safety for Students

  • Make sure that students don’t have to deal with any kind of physical, sexual, mental, or emotional abuse or harassment from their coworkers, staff, or service providers.
  • Set up ways for students to report worries about their well-being and let them know about them.
  • Report any abuse of a student to the Head of Institute as soon as it happens, so that the required investigations can be done and, if necessary, the right punishments can be given.

Student Relations

  • Be available to talk to kids about problems they are having in school or in other parts of their lives.
  • Get help for students who are having trouble with schoolwork once this problem is brought to light.
  • Help Management and the student group figure out how to solve problems.
  • Make sure that students are regularly and on time for lectures and other Institute events by keeping track of their attendance.
  • Talk to students or send them to the right places when they need to talk to someone or get help with counseling.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Talk to parents and teachers often and in the right way to find out how kids are doing and what other problems they might be facing.
  • Make sure that all disagreements between students and their teachers, classmates, and parents/guardians are solved quickly.

Other

  • Be in charge of making the DTI Youth Protection Policy and making sure it’s being reviewed regularly.
  • Stay up-to-date on all Youth Protection risks, policies, and processes, as well as local laws and rules about youth protection.
  • Act with the highest level of morality in all your interactions with kids.
  • Do any other tasks that might be given to you from time to time.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

  • Internal: Head of Institute, Students, and Teachers, Facilities Manager, Registrar, and School Matron
  • Parents, community leaders, service providers, and program organizers are people from the outside.

Needed Qualifications and Experience

The right person should have:

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school and 8–10 years of experience directly linked to the duties and responsibilities listed.
  • It would be helpful to have a Master’s degree in social science.

  • Be aware of how students learn.
  • Making plans and putting them into action.
  • Coming up with rules and processes.
  • Budget preparation skills.
  • Good knowledge of student support programs and services • Solid knowledge of the legal environment
  • Skills for developing employees and managing their work.
  • Crisis intervention tactics
  • Strong skills as a leader and a manager.
  • Shown they know how to solve problems.
  • Know how to use resources well.
  • Both writing and spoken communication skills are very good.
  • Staying calm in an emergency
  • Independent opinion
