Data Analyst/Database Manager

Data Analyst/ Essential Duties/Tasks:

  • Develop and manage a functional web-based data system, which must be handed over to USAID at the end of the contract period.
  • Provide leadership in data management responsibilities, including serving as the field-based point of contact with Resonances database management subcontractor.
  • Supports, as necessary, the conceptualization and/or design of data collection and analysis efforts, including designing methodologies, data collection tools, and data analysis plans.
  • Develop and administer data calls and surveys, and analyze or summarize output data;
  • Develop quantitative models and methodologies to analyze or summarize third-party or internal USAID data
  • Leads and/or supports the development and maintenance of analytical products that report on those data in visually intuitive formats Integrate geospatial information and data analyses into strategic planning, program design, and monitoring, evaluation, & learning (MEL).
  • Incorporates geospatial analysis, spatial and statistical analysis, and visualization to help set goals, objectives, targets, anticipated results and present this information in compelling visuals for preparation of Reports.
  • Support general mapping needs for performance management, project and activity design, and reporting on and communicating about the Missions portfolio
  • Other duties as assigned.

Data Analyst/ Minimum Requirements:

  • Work authorization in Ghana is required and must have already been obtained.
  • At least five years of related work experience. Master’s degree with at least 2 years of experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, Access, and ARCGIS, or QGIS.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of one or more statistical and/or data mining products such as SPSS, SQL, R, Stata or SAS.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of and interest in international development or a related field, such as economics, global/public health, gender, trade, or international relations.
  • Oral proficiency in English required.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the following: database design and management, design of research methodologies, quantitative data analysis (including multivariate), experimental or quasi-experimental research design, data visualization.
  • Strong quantitative background and experience in data collection, cleaning, processing, and reproducible analysis is required. Examples include using statistical software or programming languages (e.g. Python, Stata, SAS, SPSS, R).
  • Able to extract, clean, process, and standardize data from third-party data sources for storage in a relational database and publication.
  • Communicate effectively and helpfully with clients to understand their needs, find solutions, report on progress, and seek feedback;
  • Technical knowledge of industry-standard GIS software (Esri ArcGIS, QGIS, MapBox etc.), Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI), and creation of geospatial data products in developing country environments.
  • Able to create custom data-driven map products for a variety of audiences that are user-friendly (i.e., readable and visually appealing), and in compliance with industry and USAID standards.
  • Ability to apply geospatial technology and data analyses related to such diverse sectors as agriculture, democracy & governance, economic growth, education, environment and health.
  • Strong organizational skills, analytical capabilities, able to work in a fast-paced environment, demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrated skills in working collaboratively with others to create and maintain a team environment and culture.
  • Experience in data visualization. Suggests or prepares data visualizations for relevant reports, presentations, or other products (preferred)
  • Experience translating statistical, regression and visualization results into briefing documents or presentations for senior leadership.

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in statistics, economics, Geography/GIS, mathematics or other related field required with at least five years of experience.
  • Masters degree preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENT

  • Working Environment: Work is typically performed in an office environment.
  • Physical Requirements: This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 20 lbs.
  • Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
  • Travel: In-country travel may be required.
  • Work Authorization: Candidate must be authorized to work in Ghana
