Position Overview
We are seeking an accomplished Technical Director to join our Seed Fund Delivery Team. This role offers flexibility to be based in Arlington, Belgium, France (remote), South Africa, Ghana, or Liberia. You will shape the conservation strategy for Country Packages while providing technical leadership across grant design and implementation.
As a key technical advisor, you will engage directly with governments, NGOs, and research institutions to develop participatory grant processes and advance strategic conservation outcomes. Your expertise will guide investment decisions and ensure projects deliver measurable impact for biodiversity and communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical analysis for grant awards and contribute directly to funding decision-making processes
- Manage complex project lifecycles from planning and implementation to monitoring and evaluation
- Provide strategic oversight for midsize to large conservation initiatives across multiple regions
- Supervise and mentor project staff, subcontractors, and consultants to ensure delivery excellence
- Develop comprehensive project reports, work plans, and stakeholder communications
- Facilitate knowledge management and information sharing among internal and external partners
- Manage relationships with implementing organizations and support donor engagement
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor project progress and provide adaptive management guidance
- Represent the Seed Fund at high-level meetings and international events
- Assume Acting Managing Director responsibilities when required
Qualifications and Experience
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with seven or more years of professional experience
- Minimum two years of experience supervising and motivating multidisciplinary teams
- Direct project management experience in conservation, NGO, or related sectors
- Comprehensive understanding of climate and biodiversity commitments (30×30 agenda, NDCs, Rio Conventions)
- Proven track record in fund management and grant-making processes
- Excellent technical, analytical, and organizational capabilities
- Fluency in English plus French or Spanish (both preferred)
- Ability to travel 20-30% to project sites and work across time zones
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in a conservation-related discipline
- Specific knowledge of Country Package host nations and their environmental challenges
- Experience with environmental safeguards and gender inclusion frameworks
- Proficiency in MS SharePoint design and database management
- Background in producing knowledge products and training materials
Working Conditions
This role involves significant international collaboration with flexibility for remote work arrangements. Candidates should anticipate extended hours to accommodate global time zones and occasional work in outdoor field conditions.
