China Extends Discounted Visa Fees for Indian Travelers Through 2025
The Chinese Embassy in India has announced an extension of reduced visa fees for Indian travelers until December 31, 2025. This decision aims to make travel to China more accessible, especially as relations between the two nations improve.
Good News for Indian Travelers
Indian citizens planning a trip to China can benefit from these reduced visa fees. This initiative encourages travel and cultural exchange between India and China.
Revised Visa Fee Structure
The extended program retains the reduced visa fees introduced last year. Here’s a summary of the new fee structure:
Visa Type | Fee (INR) |
Single-entry visa | 2,900 |
Double-entry visa | 4,400 |
Six-month multiple-entry visa | 5,900 |
12-month multiple-entry visa | 8,800 |
Group visa | 1,800 |
Official group visa | 1,800 |
This measure builds upon previous efforts to lower costs and foster greater travel between India and China.
Simplified Visa Application Process
To streamline the visa application process, the Chinese Embassy introduced new guidelines in August 2024. These updates focus on improving jurisdictional requirements, document submissions, and overall efficiency.
Submission Locations
- Mumbai Consulate-General: Handles applications from Maharashtra and Karnataka.
- Kolkata Consulate-General: Manages applications from Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal.
- New Delhi Embassy: Processes applications from all other regions.
Direct Submissions
Since November 2023, applicants no longer need appointments. They can submit applications directly on any working day. Eligible applications receive same-day processing.
Fingerprint Exemptions
Certain individuals are exempt from fingerprint collection:
- Children under 14.
- Individuals over 70.
- Applicants whose fingerprints were collected in the past five years with the same passport.
- Those with uncollectible fingerprints.
Processing Times and Requirements
Processing times vary by service type and are as follows:
Service Type | Processing Time |
Express Service | 3 working days |
Regular Service | 4 working days |
Applicants must provide:
- A completed visa application form.
- A valid passport with at least six months’ validity and two blank pages.

Special categories, including diplomatic and courtesy visas, are exempt from fingerprint collection and require direct submission to consular sections.
Visa-Free Entry Provisions
Certain foreign nationals can enter China visa-free, including those covered under valid mutual visa exemption agreements. Other eligible individuals include:
- Holders of APEC cards.
- Those with valid residence permits.
- Lastly, individuals qualifying for transit visa exemptions.
Additional requirements, such as invitation letters or interviews, may apply based on the visa type.
Improved Bilateral Relations
This announcement comes at a time of improving diplomatic ties between India and China. Recent developments along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) indicate a broad consensus to resolve disputes. Ongoing diplomatic and military discussions aim to foster stability, as emphasized by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh during the Chanakya Defence Dialogue in October 2024.
The Ministry of Defence highlighted that these efforts align with India’s “Viksit Bharat Vision.” This vision focuses on enhancing border infrastructure and national security. Counter-terrorism operations and infrastructure projects in border areas further support this goal.
In summary, these initiatives create a favorable environment for Indian travelers while strengthening ties between India and China.
