Responsibilities
In this role, you will oversee a range of critical duties, including:
Veterinary Care
- Diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions in animals.
- Perform shelter medicine and small animal surgeries, including spaying, neutering, and orthopedic procedures.
- Develop and implement medical protocols for the care of sick or injured animals.
- Monitor and ensure quality control of medications and equipment.
- Conduct post-release follow-ups to ensure the well-being of rehomed animals.
Team Leadership and Development
- Lead and manage a team of veterinary technicians and support staff.
- Provide mentorship and training on medical procedures and best practices.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment focused on animal welfare.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work with shelter management to create comprehensive health and wellness programs.
- Communicate effectively with staff and external partners regarding animal health status.
- Represent the shelter in veterinary and animal welfare communities, attending relevant conferences.
Compliance and Recordkeeping
- Ensure adherence to regulations and veterinary ethics in all aspects of operations.
- Maintain accurate medical records for all shelter animals.
- Oversee inventory management of medical supplies and equipment.
Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree.
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience, including leadership roles.
- Experience in shelter medicine or nonprofit settings is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills and ability to adapt to different cultures.
- Willingness to relocate to India for the role.
