Job Description
Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere (CARE), Inc., doing business as CARE International in Ghana, is looking for talented, motivated, and creative District Project Assistants (DPAs) for the Women for Change Project. These people will work closely with the Zonal Project Coordinator (ZPC) to carry out project activities in the cocoa districts of the Ashanti region and help with teaching.
The Women for Change (W4C) Project is a five-year program (Oct. 2020–Sept. 2025) funded by Mars Inc. to help women and their families in cocoa-growing communities. The project is part of Mars’ Cocoa for a Generation strategy, which is based on the Women’s Empowerment Model.
The model says that when cocoa-farming households have access to financial skills and tools when women are able to engage in entrepreneurship and collective action, and when gender equality is increased in cocoa-growing communities, then cocoa-farming households achieve economic resilience and improved livelihoods, which directly contributes to achieving a living income.
The key Project Objectives are to:
Increase the leadership and power of women, give women more access to and control over productive resources, make it easier for women to shop in markets that are open to everyone, and improve strategic partnerships and advocacy.

JOB PROFILE
The District Project Assistants (DPAs) will be based in the Ashanti region, in the districts of Agona West, Effiduase, Nyinahin, and Antoakrom Cocoa.
It is important for candidates to live in one of the cities or towns listed in the districts. He or she will have to spend a lot of time in the communities that will be given to him or her. be expected to work with the people in the area where she or he will be based. The DPAs will work with group promoters in the communities to carry out key project activities like VSLA management, financial and market literacy training, and gender and stakeholder interface dialogues. The DPAs will give their reports to the Zonal Project Coordinator directly.
Some Key Responsibilities for this role:
- Help with community engagement and mobilization
- Also, Help set up and train VSLA groups in the communities where they are needed.
- Give regular help to the VSLA groups that are already in place so that they can grow and do other project-related things.
- Help VSLA members start or grow micro-businesses that have been picked out.
- Help the project communities put the Functional Literacy Program into action.
- Help the project’s activities that deal with “nutrition and a healthy family.”
- Fill out the necessary monitoring forms and give them to the project leader. Skills or Experience
Required Skills or Experience
Knowledge
- Knowledge about how VSLAs are formed and trained
- Knowledgeable about Akan customs and how they work.
Experience
- At least one year of volunteer work on a project like this
- Must live in one of the project communities and be willing to travel a lot to other communities where they are assigned.
- Relevant experience in community mobilization activities and working with cocoa farming communities, CBOs, and traditional institutions,
- Good skills at getting people to work together and leading groups
- Fluency in the Twi language
- Shown that they know how to ride a motorcycle

- A SHS graduate or higher from a school that is known to be good
