POSITION: Mine Planning Engineer – Medium-Term

Position Summary

• Location: Namdini Gold Mine Site, Bolgatanga
• Section/ Unit: Mining Production
• Department: Mining
• Job reports to: Mining Manager or his designate

Objective of the Role 

To offer technical assistance for mine production by means of efficient Mine Planning, Mine Design, Mine Scheduling, Contract Management, and Cost Enhancement strategies.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

• Provide timely, effective mining designs, plans, and schedules to maximize ore and waste extraction.
• Help with the preparation of the Life of Mine and yearly budget to achieve the necessary production efficiently and in accordance with corporate objectives.
• Create monthly mining schedules and plans that correspond with the yearly budget.
• Tracks expenses associated with services delivered by contractors and enacts accepted suggestions to enhance operational efficiencies and foster ongoing improvement.
• Offering coaching, advice, and technical assistance to graduate mining engineers and National Service personnel.
• Conduct monthly reconciliation for services completed by contractors for payment purposes.
• Aid in the process of estimating ore reserves.
• Create rolling forecast schedules for three months, taking into account aspects like deposit features, geotechnical factors, safety rules, and environmental effects.
• Assist in the execution of mining and cost enhancement studies and projects by providing precise mining engineering data and analysis, which encompasses designs, mine plans, and financial aspects.
• Carry out any other relevant tasks as required by the Company and designated by the Supervisor.

Required Skills or Experience

Minimum requirements (s) 

• Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering
• A minimum of a Mine Foreman Certificate of competency issued by the Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission.
• Legitimate driver’s license

Minimum Experience 

• At least 5 years of experience in open pit mining.

Knowledge 

• Solid understanding and experience in mine planning and financial forecasting.
• Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of mining practices, along with a basic understanding of Geology, Processing Operations, and Mine Maintenance.
• Should be capable of conducting financial modeling and analysis in a mining setting.
• Comprehensive understanding of every aspect of mining operations and expertise in cash flow analysis using spreadsheets.
• Proven capability to manage a team and perform risk evaluations.
• History of executing ongoing enhancement initiatives.
• Skilled in mine planning software tools for pit optimization and designs, ideally Surpac, DataMine, MineSched, Whittle, NPVS.
• Familiarity with MS Office packages.
• Awareness and comprehension of the Duty of Care Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations 2012 L.I. 2182, along with the Mining Inspection Act & Regulations.
• Comprehension of Mining Health and Safety Protocols.
