Canada’s New Immigration System Launch from September 30 | Alberta PNP | IRCC Latest Update
On September 30, 2024, Alberta will launch a new Expression of Interest system. The province will not hold the remaining monthly application acceptance dates for 2024. Applicants will be invited from a selection pool based on their rankings and the demands of the labor market. As of July 25, 2024, Alberta had received 446 web form submissions in the selection pool.
Alberta’s New EOI System
On September 30, 2024, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) will open for new Expressions of Interest. The dates that remain for the province to accept monthly applications will not be followed.
Following the submission of their Expression of Interest, candidates will be added to a pool for selection. They would receive an invitation to visit based on their ranking and the province’s current labor market requirements. This new system will be used for continuous candidate intake.

Previous Guideline Changes to AAIP
Two significant guidelines were changed by the Alberta Provincial Nominee Program, formerly known as the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). These announcements reaffirm that on June 11, the province will start taking applications for the Alberta Opportunity Stream.
With updated criteria to manage nomination targets and processing times for 2024, the program also offered greater clarity. The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) annual nominations quota for 2024 is 9,750 nominations about the Canadian government’s yearly PNP allocation. This is the total number of certificates for provincial nominations that can be granted this year.
As of May 29, the province has already received 4,337 nominations under the various AAIP streams; hence, the province is currently organizing the remaining nominations for the streams indicated below in nearly equal numbers over the final seven months of 2024.
- Alberta Opportunity Stream
- Rural Renewal Stream
- Accelerated Tech Pathway
- Tourism and Hospitality Stream
Additionally, only a predetermined number of applications will be accepted each month into the pool of the paths or streams mentioned above, as indicated below. Once the monthly target for that specific stream or pathway is reached, the stream or pathway will close to new applications until the next month’s opening date.
