Paths to immigration

Ontario

To be eligible for the Ontario Entrepreneur Stream, you must be actively involved in the business on a continuous basis, managing and controlling its operations. It must produce jobs in the area. If it is in Toronto, it must generate at least two permanent full-time jobs. A Canadian permanent resident or citizen must hold at least one full-time employment in a digital or tech enterprise.

You must first submit an expression of interest. Prior to that, you must fulfill some essential prerequisites. Your firm must be viable and deliver economic benefits to Ontario or the area in which it operates. If you have a business partner, both of you must meet the standards.

Some requirements:

You must have full-time business experience, with at least 24 months of that experience occurring within the previous 60 months. Your previous experience should have been as a business owner or senior management. You must have taken an active role in the business. At least one-third of the firm had to be owned by someone.

Your net worth must be between $400,000 CDN and $800,000 CDN, depending on where the business is located. In the Greater Toronto Area, it will likely be closer to $800,000 CDN. These digital technologies, regardless of location, will cost $400,000 CDN.

There are minimums for personal investment, and they vary depending on where the firm will be based. Your personal investment must be between $200,000 CDN and $600,000 CDN. Information and technology communications or digital communications require a minimum equity of $200,000 CDN.

You will have to be actively involved in this business. It must be ongoing, including involvement in business management. As previously said, the objective of your firm must be to earn a profit while also creating jobs in its area.

Buying a business

You may purchase an existing business, but you must make at least one business-related travel to Canada within 12 months of submitting your Expression of Interest. This firm must have been run by the same owner for the past five years.

You must demonstrate that you will make at least a 10% investment to improve or expand the business. This will benefit both Ontario and its residents. If the company already has full-time employees when you buy it, you must keep them after the transfer of ownership.

Remember that seasonal and transitory enterprises are ineligible for this sort of immigration. Some companies, like pawnbrokers and laundromats, will be ineligible. Bed and breakfast establishments are not eligible in the Greater Toronto Area.
