Understanding the Functioning of IEC
The IEC functions using a model based on Expression of Interest and Invitation to Apply. Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria must create an IEC profile; however, they must first receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) before submitting their application.
This document provides a detailed chronological overview of the workings of the IEC program:
- Fill out the Come to Canada questionnaire and, if you qualify, obtain your personal reference code.
- Please utilize this code to establish your online account.
- Finish the outstanding steps in the IEC profile builder.
- Provide your profile and select the IEC pools you wish to join.
- After receiving an Invitation to Apply through your account, you have 10 days to apply or decline. If you agree, click “Start Application” in your account to apply for a work permit.
- Once you click the “Start Application” button, you have a period of 20 days from that date to complete, pay for, and submit your work permit application, irrespective of whether you begin on day 1 or day 10.
- Before the 20-day period ends, your company must submit the $230 company Compliance Fee for Young Professional and International Coop categories via the Employer Portal. Ask your employer for the employment offer number they’ll get after paying costs. This number is crucial for work permit applications.
- Post any necessary documents, such as police and medical test certifications. You can upload proof of your medical exam application and police certificate request if you don’t have these documents.
- Please submit your participation fee of CAD 153 using a credit card via the online payment system available in your account.
- Applicants for the Working Holiday Category are required to pay their open work permit holder fee of CAD $100 at this time as well.
- IRCC begins evaluating the temporary work visa application at this point. IRCC may require more documentation. This is the last chance to leave IEC and get a refund. Eight weeks are typical for IRCC application processing.
- Upon successful application, a letter of introduction (LOI) will be dispatched to your account. The document is officially titled the Port of Entry (POE) Introduction Letter.
- This letter is intended to be presented upon arrival at a Port of Entry, such as an international airport, in Canada, where a work permit can be obtained.
To reach the maximum validity period for a category, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) may allow IEC work permit holders to extend their validity period.
Conclusion
The International Experience Canada program is a dynamic component of Canada’s immigration strategy, offering young foreigners the fantastic chance to live and work in Canada while making a positive impact on the local economy.
