Call for applications for GIZ Contract Farming Training of Trainers & Coaches (ToTC)

The Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Trade & Industry (MoTI) in partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is conducting a Contract Farming Training of Trainers & Coaches. One focus of the MoTI/GIZ partnership lies on improving the raw material supply base of selected One District – One Factory (1D1F) companies. Hence, the purpose is to build up a pool of certified contract farming facilitators, who can then offer their expertise to companies and farmer-based organisations to plan, setup, implement, facilitate and monitor contract farming arrangements.

Place and period of the training

The training will be conducted in three phases:

  • Phase One, 7th – 11th February 2022: Five-day training workshop – Fundamentals of facilitating contract farming (based on GIZ Contract Farming (CF) Handbook I & II)
  • Phase Two, 14th – 25th February 2022: Two weeks of working in tandems on a specific case study in a specific company
  • Phase Three, 8th March – 12th March 2022 (tentative): Five-day training workshop: Presentation, discussion, and assessment of case study results
    The location of the training workshops (Phase One and Phase Three) will be communicated in due course. During Phase Two participants will be seconded to a particular company. The location of this company might be anywhere in Ghana.

Training objectives

At the end of the trainings, participants are expected to:

  • have a good understanding of Contract Farming (CF) planning, implementation, and management
  • understand the concept of CF inclusive business models, be able to develop CF business models as well as criteria for sustainable CF operations in Ghana
  • understand the criteria for sustainable CF in Ghana and success factors for communication and monitoring of CF schemes
  • analyse the business relationships between farmers and off-takers and provide relevant recommendations to both parties to improve the arrangement
  • facilitate stakeholder engagements for them to manage inclusive business models based on trust and mutual understanding

Selection criteria for Participants

Participants will be selected on the basis of:

  • Full availability for all three phases
  • Knowledge and experience in supporting agribusinesses
  • Knowledge and experience in advising and supporting farmer-based organisations and off-taking companies
  • Knowledge and experience in promoting agricultural value chains
  • Language skills (English plus at least one Ghanaian language)
  • Women are strongly encouraged to apply.

Certification

Participants must complete all three phases successfully and pass the assessment to become a certified GIZ Contract Farming Facilitator.

Cost of training

The costs of the trainings (Phase 1 and Phase 3) are covered by GIZ. Participants will be required to take care of their transportation to the venue. During Phase 2, participants will be assigned to analyse a particular company as a case study, preferably in proximity of their location.

Deadline for applications

Application must be submitted by 31st December 2021.
