Role Description

As a Registered Nurse in the Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES), you will evaluate patients presenting with psychiatric or psychosocial crises. Your work will follow the principles of the recovery model, focusing on holistic care.

Required Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the following criteria:

• Graduate from a recognized nursing education program.
• Eligible to apply for registration and a practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta.
• Current certification in basic cardiac life support (BCLS-HCP).
• If you haven’t registered as a nurse in the past five years, you must complete specific courses, including the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification.

Additional Qualifications

• At least one year of full-time experience in addictions and mental health within the past three years.
• Successful completion of a final preceptorship at an Addiction and Mental Health site may enhance your application.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) is advantageous.
• Experience in juvenile and adolescent mental health is preferred.
• Familiarity with mental health and addiction resources in the Calgary Zone is a bonus.
• Experience with verbal de-escalation techniques is valuable.
• Understanding the Mental Health Act is an asset.
• The ability to assess various risks, such as suicide and violence, is crucial.
