The Bulgarian Constitution and the Citizenship Law provide the rules for Bulgarian nationality law. It is primarily based on jus sanguinis, although after five years of residence in Bulgaria, citizenship is also an option. DOES THE BULGARIA PERMIT DUAL CITIZENSHIP?

Yes! Only native-born individuals, residents of the EU, EEA, and Switzerland, as well as partners of Bulgarian nationals, are permitted dual citizenship in Bulgaria. Those who become naturalized citizens must renounce all other nationalities if they do not fall under any of the aforementioned categories.

When a person loses their citizenship as a result of naturalization in accordance with his fatherland law, or when they have been released from their current citizenship at their own request and under the terms and orders of his fatherland law, those events are considered releases from their current citizenship.
