Job Description
Location: Wa (with possibility of travel 40% of the time)
Reports To: Deputy Chief of Party
Duration: One Year Contract- Anticipated to be renewable on annual basis
Global Communities a Non-Governmental Organization is seeking an experienced professional to fill the position of Behavior Change Communication Officer for the 5-year USAID funded Enhancing WASH (E-WASH) project.
This project aims at making improved water supply and sanitation accessible to all Ghanaians while promoting the knowledge, attitudes and behaviors needed to make this intervention sustainable. WASH for Health will focus on targeted communities in the Northern, Western, Central, Volta and Greater Accra regions of Ghana.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Behavior Change Communication Officer will oversee the BCC/CLTS team activities in the E-WASH program target areas. This will entail providing technical expertise as follows:
- Support the BCC Specialist to design and facilitate the implementation of a suitable and relevant BCC/CLTS strategy and its related components throughout the project duration.
- Support the BCC Specialist to develop multi-channel and multi-phase WASH campaigns that link WASH behaviors with essential nutrition actions.
- Support the BCC Specialist to develop yearly workplans, conduct and/or participate in situational assessment and formative research.
- Support the BCC Specialist to supervise the training of CLTS facilitators, CHWs, and health facility staff in the public and private sectors by devising and implementing strategies for ongoing monitoring and enhancement of targeted capabilities.
- Support of the BCC Specialist to develop BCC materials using inputs from project stakeholders.
- Liaise with the COP and DCOP on any other duties assigned.

Required Skills or Experience
- BSc. degree in Development Studies, Public Health, Communications, Psychology or equivalent certification in General Nursing. A Masters degree will be a plus.
- A minimum of 5 years working experience, with a minimum of 3 years within public sector institutions (e.g. CWSA, Ghana Health Service, Ghana Education Service, etc.) preferably on hygiene promotion programs.
- Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of WASH-related issues within the context of rural and urban communities.
- Understanding of CLTS, and the impact of gender status and relationships on WASH and nutrition practices
Proficiency in English (both oral and written) is required. - Computer literacy in MS Office Suite (especially Excel, Access and similar database software)
