Around the world, Austria is a prominent study-abroad destination for international students. Additionally, Austria provides excellent employment opportunities for students who choose to stay and work after they graduate.

WHO REQUIRES A VISA TO STUDY IN AUSTRIA?

In essence, a visa is required for everyone who wants to study in Austria. There are a few exceptions, though. You won’t need a student visa for Austria if:

  • Firstly, you are a citizen of the EU/EEA or an international student studying in one of the Schengen Member States.
  • Also, a citizen from one of the nations with which Austria has a visa agreement.

TYPES OF AUSTRIA STUDENT VISA

In general, there are 2 kinds of student visas for Austria: short-term and long-term. The sort of visa you may apply for depends on how long your studies program will last:

  • Complete the visa application.
  • Additionally, assemble all of your papers.
  • Establish a visa appointment.
  • Lastly, get ready for the interview.

WHERE TO APPLY FOR AN AUSTRIA STUDENT VISA

Every visa is issued by a regional embassy or consulate in the nation where you now reside. To obtain a student visa, you must do so there. Before submitting your request for a student visa, please make sure you have enrolled in an Austrian university.

WHEN CAN ONE APPLY FOR AN AUSTRIA STUDENT VISA

PROCESSING TIME FOR AUSTRIAN STUDENT VISAS

The processing period for an Austrian student visa is between 2 and 4 weeks. Make sure your contact information is up to date because the embassy will notify you once your visa is ready.

CAN ONE WORK WITH AN AUSTRIA STUDENT VISA

  • One must apply for a special C or D visa that enables one to obtain a work permit if one wishes to be able to work while you are a student. Students from third-country nations are unable to work during their education without this visa.
  • Depending on the requirements of your visa, if you have been granted a work permit, you may be able to work between 10 and 20 hours a week. Remember that your company must submit an application to the Public Employment Service for your work permit.

IS EXTENSION OF AUSTRIAN STUDENT VISAS PERMITTED?

  • You can, indeed. If you have very excellent grounds for needing an extension and you show significant progress in your course of study, you may be eligible to petition for a student visa extension.
  • You can also file for a resident permit “Student” that will allow you to stay in Austria and finish your education.

CAN ONE WORK IN AUSTRIA AFTER THEIR STUDIES?

  • After completing your studies, you may stay and work in Austria if you have a residence visa. When your student visa expires in Austria, you must depart if you don’t have a job or resident permit.
  • Applying for a “job seekers visa” will allow you to remain in Austria for up to 6 months while you look for work.
  • You must, however, apply for a Red-White-Red Card, which allows you to stay and operate in Austria for up to two years if you find a job within these six months.
