Australia Skilled Nomination Visa Open for Victoria 2024–25: Australia Visa Update
For the migration year 2024–2025, skilled migrants can apply to Australia for permanent residency, which will allow them to live and work in Victoria permanently and bring their families with them. The skilled workers who are nominated by the Victoria government to live and work in the state are part of the Skilled Migration Program.
The Visa is part of the larger skilled migration program, which attempts to attract skilled workers to Victoria to address labor shortages and strengthen the state’s economy. The following skilled visas are available for skilled workers to nominate themselves for, either in Victoria or overseas.
- Victoria Subclass 190 Skilled Nominated Visa, which allows for both long-term residency and work
- The five-year Subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional Provisional Visa offers a route to permanent residency after three years of employment and accommodation in Victoria.
Victoria’s 2024–25 Nomination Allocation
The Australian government’s Department of Home Affairs has allocated 5,000 skilled Visa nomination slots to Victoria for the 2024–25 program year. Victoria has been allotted 2,000 Skilled Work Regional Provisional Subclass 491 Visa slots and 3,000 Skilled Nominated Subclass 190 Visa slots.
To learn more about the skilled Visa nomination program, we advise you to visit the official website. To be asked to apply for a skilled Visa nomination, you must first create or edit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the Australian government Skill Select and then submit a Registration of Interest (ROI).
Invitation rounds and ROI ranking factors
Throughout the fiscal year, there are rounds of invites; the dates of these rounds are set and will be announced later. The program will close to new ROIs in 2025. Since an ROI is not an application for a nomination for a Victorian visa, it is not subject to a processing timeline. If you have filed an ROI but have not gotten an email asking you to do so, you are not eligible to apply for a Victorian nomination.
If your ROI is found to be eligible but hasn’t been selected yet, it will still be taken into consideration for the invitation rounds later in the year, even though selection isn’t guaranteed. Because there are only a limited number of nomination places available, all ROIs must be ranked against each other before the most competitive ROIs across the spectrum of ranking factors are invited.
There is intense competition for this process, so invitations are not assured. When inviting ROIs, Victoria considers several variables, such as your age, English proficiency, years of experience in your chosen field, educational background, occupational skill level, partner skill (if applicable), and compensation for onshore applicants.
Victoria Skilled Visa Nomination Application Process
To be considered for a Victorian Visa nomination, you have to;
- Check your eligibility by meeting the requirements for the visa you wish to apply for, either the 190 Skilled Nominated Visa or the Skilled Work Regional Provisional Visa Subclass 491.
- Send in or make changes to your Expression of Interest (EOI) via the Australian government’s Skill Select.
- Create an account on the “LiveinMelbourne” website (https://liveinmelbourne.vic.gov.au/) and submit your ROI using the EOI number that you received from Skill Select to submit your ROI for the Victorian Visa nomination.
- Use the LiveinMelbourne website to submit your nomination application after obtaining an invitation.
- Submit your visa application to the Australian government’s Department of Home Affairs if your nomination is accepted.
Updating and withdrawing your existing ROI
Your submitted ROI will be in Victoria’s database until the end of the program year. You withdraw it, or you are asked to, because once an ROI is submitted, it cannot be changed. You have to withdraw your ROI and submit a new one if any of the data is false or outdated. Unless the information provided in the first ROI has changed, there is no reason to withdraw it and submit a new one.
Removing and resubmitting a return on investment (ROI) does not affect your ranking or appearance in Victoria’s review, nor does it reduce your likelihood of getting selected. If you are asked to apply for a visa nomination but are unable to produce documentation proving your credentials, your application may be denied, so your ROI must be accurate and up-to-date.
