The Skills in Demand List (CSOL) no longer separates occupations into short and medium/long-term categories. All occupations can now be granted for up to four years, depending on the selected duration and payment to the Skilling Australia Fund (SAF) at the nomination stage.

3. Extended Time to Find a New Sponsor

Skilled workers now have 180 days to find a new sponsor if their employment ends. The government has introduced a public register of approved sponsors to assist SID visa holders in their search. After leaving their 482 sponsor, visa holders can work for 180 days for any employer in any occupation, spread over two different periods.

4. Clear Pathway to Permanent Residency

The SID Visa provides a more secure route to permanent residency. Previously, only time spent with the same 482 sponsors counted toward PR. Now, time spent with a previous sponsor can count toward the two-year requirement for permanent residency with a new sponsor.

Any occupation on the CSOL list qualifies for nomination for an Employer Nominated Sponsorship, Subclass 186, Direct Entry application.
