About Role

The Audit Manager will join the Specialist Services Unit within the Audit and Assurance Services division, playing a key role in delivering internal audit services across NHS Wales organisations. This role involves overseeing audit programmes related to project and estates assurance, governance frameworks, financial management, and healthcare service delivery.

You will manage a portfolio of complex audit assignments, support the development of annual audit plans, and deliver high-level reviews of risk management systems, control processes, and organisational governance structures. Responsibilities

  • Manage and deliver internal audit assignments across NHS Wales organisations
  • Support the development and implementation of annual audit plans
  • Conduct complex reviews of governance, risk management, and financial controls
  • Assure project, estates, and infrastructure governance
  • Produce detailed audit reports with recommendations for improvement
  • Supervise and mentor junior audit staff
  • Present audit findings to senior leadership and audit committees

Requirements

  • Professional qualification such as CCAB (Chartered Accountant) or MIIA (Member of the Institute of Internal Auditors)
  • Extensive experience in internal audit, public sector audit, or NHS environments
  • Strong knowledge of Public Sector Internal Audit Standards and governance frameworks
  • Experience managing audit teams and delivering complex audit reports
  • Advanced analytical, reporting, and stakeholder engagement skills
