The Role: Accounts Officer

We are looking for a proactive Accounts Officer to take ownership of our daily financial operations. In this role, you will serve as a key guardian of our financial data. Your primary mission will be to ensure strict compliance with local regulations while simultaneously supporting our operational teams to work efficiently. You will manage essential accounting records, process a high volume of transactions with zero errors, and prepare insightful financial reports. Furthermore, you will be the go-to person for ensuring we adhere to all statutory and tax compliance requirements, keeping the Group in good standing with regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities

Your day-to-day activities will be diverse and impactful. Specifically, you will:

  • Process Payments: Prepare and write cheques for all approved payments with absolute precision.
  • Manage Vendor Relations: Process supplier and other third-party payments on time, ensuring we maintain strong working relationships.
  • Oversee Cash Handling: Manage and disburse petty cash, ensuring every cedi is accounted for.
  • Maintain Impeccable Records: Keep proper, organized, and easily auditable records of all cash and cheque transactions.
  • Ensure Reconciliation: Perform regular cash reconciliation to match physical cash with book records.

Required Skills & Experience

To succeed in this role, you need a blend of formal education and practical, hands-on experience. We are looking for candidates who fit the following profile:

Educational Requirements

  • A Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting, or
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from a recognized institution.

Years of Experience

  • For HND holders, we require 3 to 6 years of relevant, professional work experience in a similar role.
  • For Bachelor’s degree holders, we require 6 to 10 years of proven experience in accounting and financial operations.

Core Skills & Competencies

Beyond your qualifications, your personal attributes are equally important. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Technical Knowledge: A solid, working knowledge of basic accounting principles and double entry bookkeeping.
  • Software Proficiency: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to use formulas and create spreadsheets for tracking and reporting.
  • Payment Expertise: Demonstrated ability to write cheques accurately, process various types of payments, and manage banking relationships.
  • Cash Management Skills: Proven experience in handling petty cash, performing daily reconciliations, and preventing cash discrepancies.
  • Unquestionable Integrity: A high level of integrity and the ability to handle confidential financial information with the utmost discretion.
