Key Job Duties

As an Assistant Accountant, you will perform essential tasks that contribute to our clients’ financial health and success. Your responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining accurate client accounting records through data entry and transaction coding.
  • Preparing bank and balance sheet reconciliations efficiently and accurately.
  • Managing general ledgers, adjusting journals, and preparing trial balances.
  • Keeping fixed asset registers up to date and organized.
  • Assisting in the preparation of financial statements using Xero and MYOB.
  • Preparing and filing GST, PAYE, and income tax returns, while following up with clients for necessary information.
  • Liaising with Inland Revenue (IRD) on client accounts and payment arrangements.
  • Supporting business advisory tasks, including registrations, basic tax planning, budgets, and cash flow projections.
  • Responding to client inquiries via email and phone in a professional manner.

Job Requirements

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in accounting or taxation roles within New Zealand is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficient in using accounting software, particularly Xero and MYOB.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Familiar with online IRD services and tax forms.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in number handling.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize workload and manage multiple clients effectively.
  • Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and collaborate within a supportive team environment.
