The Senior Manager is expected to assist with a wide range of research initiatives, including but not limited to:
WaterTRACS
The Water Testing, Research, and Capacity Strengthening (WaterTRACS) program has two primary interconnected components: (1) data collection and analysis of water quality at the community, household, school, and health care facility levels, and (2) a fellowship program that provides resources and opportunities to cultivate a pipeline of skilled water professionals (additional details here).
This effort is devoted to leading water quality monitoring and trend analysis at the community, household, and institutional levels in Ethiopia, Ghana, and Uganda for five years (2021-2026). This project relies heavily on collaborations with local institutions, laboratories, and government agencies. The initiative collects statistically representative data on water quality in order to properly inform water safety strategies.
Fund for Water Quality Assurance
In 2020, Aquaya established the Water Quality Assurance Fund (‘Assurance Fund’), a mechanism that incentivizes skilled urban laboratories to give testing services to scattered, rural water systems. If a water utility cannot pay testing fees within one month, the Assurance Fund pays the fees on its behalf. Thus, the Assurance Fund “assures” the laboratory that it will not suffer losses as a result of non-payment of testing fees. Furthermore, in order to stimulate improvements in water safety management, the Assurance Fund program provides capacity building and technical support to water operators, as well as consumer engagement activities. Aquaya is now implementing the Assurance Fund in Ghana and Kenya, where it is being evaluated for its influence on water safety management through randomized, controlled trials. We also hope to launch the Assurance Fund in Uganda and Tanzania in 2024.
