Regarding the University of Virginia

In 1819, Thomas Jefferson founded the institution of Virginia, initiating an ambitious endeavor to construct a public institution aimed at furthering human knowledge, teaching future leaders, and cultivating an enlightened citizenry.

This ideal persists, thriving more than two centuries after its first conception. Students, faculty, staff, and alumni of UVA challenge norms, transcend limitations, and strive for the common good across grounds and globally.

The University is a distinguished public institution of higher education, featuring esteemed schools and programs, a notable and diverse faculty, a significant academic medical center, and a rich history as a known research university. The active participation of students in governance, a sustained dedication to the arts, and a vigorous athletics program competing at the NCAA Division I level all enhance the university’s community and culture.

The University of Virginia, now in its third century, offers students an education that is both affordable and frequently ranked among the nation’s finest. The University of Virginia, as a leading public university in the United States, continually endeavors to broaden the limits of what is deemed possible for the general benefit. Steadfast commitment to initiatives that enhance, strengthen, and shape our company into its optimal future state is a key aspect in realizing our vision.
