Job Summary
The Mail Services Branch of the Ministry of SaskBuilds and Procurement is looking for a permanent, part-time Postal Clerk right away. The job is in Melville. This job will be a backup for the current postal clerk and will be scheduled for about two to three days a month, plus as many days as are needed to cover vacations and sick days. The hours for this job are 10:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities
- In this job, the person is in charge of handling a lot of incoming and outgoing mail for a client base. Sorting, metering, and handling letters, packages, and boxes are part of this job.
- To sort and measure mail quickly and accurately, you will have to read, understand, memorize, and remember things like codes, locations, etc.
- You will change ink cartridges and fill water wells as part of routine maintenance and operation of postage meter equipment.
- You will tell people about postal rates and rules. You will have to lift and carry mail bags, boxes, and packages, as well as do other tasks as they are given to you.
Requirements
- In order to deliver and pick up mail at different local offices of the provincial government, you have to drive around the town. The person in this position would have to use their own car. So, the person who gets the job must have a reliable car with a safe place to keep the mail inside. If you used your own car for work, you would get a mileage allowance. The car needs to be kept in good shape.
- The person who gets the job must have a good driving record and a valid driver’s license, as they will need to drive around town every day. To drive a car safely, you also need to know all the rules inside and out.
- The right person must be able to lift and carry heavy things over and over again every day. This job requires that you stand for long periods of time, move your wrist in the same way over and over, hear some noise from machines, be exposed to dust, and handle dangerous materials (i.e. medical specimens).
- The person who gets the job will be able to adapt to different work environments, processes, and workloads. He or she will also be creative and a good team player so that they can work together to find and use solutions to problems. Most people get the knowledge, skills, and abilities they need for this job through a combination of schooling and/or related work experience.
