Job Title: Senior Engineer – Reliability

Position Summary

The Engineering Department at Gold Fields’ Tarkwa Gold Mine is recruiting an exceptional and highly experienced Senior Engineer for Reliability. Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, this senior role carries full responsibility for managing the Asset, Reliability, and Maintenance functions. The successful candidate will ensure all engineering activities comply with Gold Fields’ global standards and procedures, driving operational excellence and equipment integrity across the mine site.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

As the Senior Reliability Engineer, you will lead strategic initiatives to maximize equipment uptime and performance. Your core duties will include the following:

Systems Development and Implementation: You will develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive Asset and Reliability management system. This framework will establish standards and procedures for all process plants, mobile machinery, and critical engineering infrastructure.
Maintenance Strategy and Analysis: A central function involves designing and optimizing preventative and predictive maintenance programs. Furthermore, you will conduct detailed Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) studies to identify and eliminate failure trends.
Predictive Technologies and Performance Monitoring: You will utilize advanced predictive technologies, including vibration monitoring, oil analysis, and thermography. Consequently, you will monitor key performance indicators like MTBF, MTTR, and OEE to assess and improve system reliability.
Cost Management and Technical Support: You will track high-cost maintenance items and production losses, developing targeted plans to mitigate them. Additionally, you will provide expert technical support during major shutdowns, lead critical failure investigations, and manage strategic equipment upgrade projects.
Integrity Management and Collaboration: You will review and update integrity management data for pressure systems and structures. Moreover, you will collaborate closely with other engineering teams to integrate new technologies and methodologies that enhance overall reliability and operational performance.
Documentation and Compliance: Maintaining precise records of equipment history, failures, and maintenance procedures is essential for continuous improvement and regulatory compliance.

Key Requirements and Qualifications

The ideal candidate must demonstrate a robust combination of qualifications and hands-on experience:

A tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline from a recognized institution.
A minimum of eight years of broad engineering experience, with at least three years in a supervisory role focused on Reliability or Asset Management within a mining environment.
Valid Sectional Engineer certification from the Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission. In-depth knowledge of the provisions of L.I.2182 of 2012 is mandatory.
Advanced degrees or professional certifications in reliability engineering are considered a strong advantage.
Proven strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with expertise in various root cause and diagnostic methodologies.
Must be a proactive, energetic self-starter with a hands-on, collaborative approach as a team player.
Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to partner effectively with staff at all organizational levels.
Proficiency in SAP, the Microsoft Office suite, and project scheduling software.
The ability to meet diverse engineering challenges with a solid knowledge of contemporary work management practices.
Medical fitness for the role and possession of a valid Ghanaian driving license, with proficiency in operating a light vehicle.
