POSITION: Digital Data Scientist

Core Responsibilities
In this role, you will bridge advanced analytics with commercial execution, turning data insights into tangible business outcomes.
- Develop Revenue-Generating Models: Design, build, and operationalize machine learning models that directly impact revenue through churn prediction, cross-sell recommendations, propensity modelling, and targeted win-back strategies.
- Build Advanced Customer Segmentation: Create and manage sophisticated customer segmentation frameworks to enable precise targeted advertising, support DataCo monetization, and deliver hyper-personalized digital product experiences.
- Forecast User Behavior: Develop predictive models to accurately forecast user engagement trends, spending patterns, and behavioral shifts, thereby enabling proactive and data-driven decision-making across the Digital Division.
- Design Prescriptive Algorithms: Engineer prescriptive algorithms that recommend optimal customer interventions to systematically improve key metrics, including retention rates, average revenue per user, conversion, and overall customer lifetime value.
- Power Personalization Engines: Build and implement robust recommendation engines and personalization models that enhance every customer interaction across MTN’s suite of digital products, services, and platforms.
- Analyze User Experience Data: Analyze in-app behavior and interaction patterns to generate deep insights that directly inform user experience enhancements and guide product feature prioritization.
- Lead Experimentation: Design, execute, and analyze A/B tests and multivariate experiments, meticulously evaluating their impact on user engagement, conversion funnels, and monetization.
- Foster Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Digital Services, Platforms, Mobile Advertising, and Channel teams to seamlessly integrate AI models into live customer journeys and product experiences.
- Ensure Scalable Deployment: Partner directly with IT, Data Engineering, and DataCo teams to guarantee the scalable and efficient deployment of models into production environments
- Support Data Monetization: Develop specialized models that advance DataCo’s commercial strategy, including behavioral targeting algorithms, advertising segment scoring, and look-alike audience generation.
Required Qualifications and Professional Experience:
To excel in this complex role, you will need a strong educational foundation and proven, relevant experience.
- You hold a First Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative or business field.
- You possess Google Analytics and SQL certifications, which are essential for this role.
- You have at least five years of relevant work experience within a digital-first organization or a dedicated digital analytics department, including three years in a supervisory or technical leadership capacity.
- You are an experienced practitioner with Python libraries like Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch, and you are proficient with cloud AI services such as Google Vertex AI or AWS SageMaker.
- You demonstrate advanced proficiency in SQL for querying and manipulating large datasets, alongside strong skills in Excel and Power BI for analysis and reporting automation.
- You possess a deep understanding of statistical analysis, A/B testing methodology, and core digital funnel metrics.
- You have hands-on experience with the full data science pipeline, including data cleaning, feature engineering, and model building to support machine learning use cases.
- You are thoroughly familiar with critical digital KPIs such as subscriber growth, engagement, ARPU, churn, and revenue forecasting.
