About the Role

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Medical Officer – Equine will provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership across all equine services. You will also lead the clinical planning and readiness for the hospital’s new emergency facility while mentoring and developing a multidisciplinary specialist team.

Responsibilities

Set, uphold, and continuously improve medical standards, protocols, and best practices across all equine services
Provide senior clinical leadership, mentorship, and governance to surgeons, clinicians, and technical teams
Support complex case management, emergency decision-making, and quality assurance processes
Lead clinical strategy and operational readiness for the new Equine Emergency and Colic Facility
Partner with executive leadership on service growth, workforce planning, and long-term sustainability
Drive a collaborative, high-performance, and psychologically safe clinical culture
Represent the hospital within the equine referral and professional community

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and eligible for licensure in Ontario, Canada
Extensive senior-level experience in equine surgery and/or equine emergency and critical care
Proven leadership experience in a medical director, CMO, or equivalent senior clinical role
Strong background in hospital operations, capacity planning, and clinical governance
Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary specialist teams in high-acuity environments
Experience supporting service expansion, new facilities, or major operational change initiatives
Excellent communication, leadership presence, and strategic decision-making capability
