  • Area of Study: Available to every field.

Requirements for April 2026 Enrollment

Applicants must satisfy all of the subsequent criteria to qualify:

  • Must be an international student with outstanding academic and personal achievements who requires financial support.
  • Should prepare to register as a full-time student in a Japanese university’s master’s program beginning in April 2026.
  • Students conducting research can also apply if they will start a master’s program in April 2026.
  • Must be living in Japan presently with a status of Student or “Permanent Resident.
  • Must be under 29 years old as of April 1, 2026 (exceptions permitted for medical/pharmacy graduates up to 32 years).
  • Required to possess adequate proficiency in the Japanese language for both interviews and written correspondence.
  • Should be able to attend an interview in February 2026, on one of these days:
  • Saturday, February 21, 2026, or Monday, February 23, 2026 (national holiday).

Who Is Ineligible to Apply?

You are ineligible if you:

  • Are currently enrolled in a master’s program (excluding Fall 2025 entrants).
  • Intend to enroll in a PhD program in April 2026.
  • Are residing abroad at the moment of application.
  • Intend to pursue studies as a research, training, non-degree, auditing, or exchange scholar.
  • Obtain financial support from a different scholarship organization.

Are you working or taking a break from a job, intending to go back to your workplace after studying?

Plan to undertake a dual-degree program with an international institution.

Timeline for Applications (April 2026 Enrollment)

The application period for the Ito Foundation for International Education Exchange Scholarship 2026 (April intake) will be from October 1 to October 31, 2025, and all applications must be postmarked by October 31.

Candidates who have been shortlisted will receive an invitation for an interview set for either February 21 or February 23, 2026. Successful candidates will start receiving their scholarship in April 2026, aligning with the beginning of the academic session, and the financial support will last for a maximum of two years, encompassing the complete length of the master’s program
