Canadian Graduate Fellowships 2026 at University of Victoria

GH DATA BUNDLE

Canadian Graduate Fellowships 2026 at University of Victoria

Do you plan to study abroad in 2026 with genuine assistance for your research expenses and community support? The Centre for Studies in Religion and Society (CSRS) at the University of Victoria invites applications for its one-year Graduate Fellowships starting September 1, 2026.

These awards target MA and PhD students whose research explores the connection between religion and society and culture, historical or contemporary. Although not a completely funded program, the CSRS fellowships significantly lower expenses and offer a valuable intellectual environment that can be paired with other scholarships to make your year as close to “study-for-free” as feasible. Postdoctoral fellowship listings.

Available Resources (Financial Support & Benefits)

  • Stipend: CAD $6,500 for a maximum of 12 months (adjusted for shorter durations).
  • Workspace & Resources: Assigned office area at CSRS, access to UVic library & special collections, mailbox, scanner, and copying services.
  • Academic Community: Open invitations to weekly public talks, daily coffee/tea gatherings, workshops, and an engaging interdisciplinary group.
  • Awards Mentioned: CSRS Graduate Student Fellowship, Ian H. Stewart Graduate Student Fellowship, Scales Family Fellowship, and the Rev. Heather J. Lindstedt & Dr. Brian A. Pollick Graduate Student Fellowship (for Art History & Visual Studies).

Suggestion: Combine this award with external or departmental financial support (such as tuition waivers, national scholarships, or supervisor grants) to further lessen or alleviate tuition and living expenses.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Main audience: Graduate students (MA or PhD)—mostly at UVic, although students from different universities may be accepted.
  • Program phase: You need to be at the writing phase of your thesis/dissertation while participating in the fellowship. (One-year MA students who are in their writing phase can also qualify.)
  • Regulations for reapplication
    • If you have held a CSRS MA award in the past, you can reapply solely for the PhD level.
    • PhD candidates can receive a CSRS fellowship one time.
  • Award exclusivity: Due to the provision of designated office space with the fellowship, fellows are typically prohibited from holding concurrent center-based awards at UVic. If you are successful in winning several, you must select one and notify CSRS.
  • International candidates are encouraged to submit their applications. Keep in mind that travel, accommodation, visa, and insurance expenses are your obligation.

Areas of Research (Which Subjects Apply)

Your project must relate religion to society or culture in any time period. Illustrations consist of:

Morality, well-being, ecology, governmental policy, gender roles, sexual orientation, technology, disputes, legal matters, creative expression, written works, communication, philosophical thought, and overlaps with natural sciences. Religion doesn’t have to be the only emphasis—but it should be an important part. Collaborative methods across disciplines are promoted.

Dates for Submitting New Applications (2026–27 Cycle)

The submission dates for new applications for the CSRS Graduate Fellowships 2026–27 have now been finalized. The deadline for applications is Monday, November 10, 2025, and selected candidates will start their fellowship on September 1, 2026. Every application will undergo a thorough evaluation by the CSRS Program Committee in December 2025. The final date to submit applications for the CSRS Graduate Fellowships 2026–27 is November 10, 2025. Postdoctoral fellowship openings
