The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Toronto is now accepting applications for its 2026–2027 graduate scholarships. Designed for talented students from Sub-Saharan Africa, the program provides full financial support to pursue advanced studies at one of the world’s leading universities.

About the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is an international effort that aids gifted students from economically challenged backgrounds throughout Africa. At the University of Toronto, this initiative is dedicated to developing the upcoming generation of African leaders, especially in the health sector. Students receive not only academic resources for success but are also provided with mentorship, networks, and leadership training necessary to become influential professionals when they go back to their home countries.
Applications for the 2026–2027 intake are now available for recent graduates and alumni from partner universities of the Africa Health Collaborative.

What is Included in the Scholarship?
This scholarship is completely funded, alleviating all financial concerns. Successful applicants will be granted:
- Complete tuition costs for the whole program
- Expenses for traveling to and from Toronto
- Accommodation and dining during their academic journey
- Literature, educational materials, and individual expenditures
- Availability of a support system for educational and personal achievement.
Moreover, students will participate in a two-week summer orientation session prior to the start of classes. This orientation aims to assist them in adapting to life in Toronto, engaging with their peers and faculty, and getting ready for their academic experience.

A maximum of 20 Mastercard scholarships is for the following graduate programs at the University of Toronto:
- Master of Engineering (Biomedical)
- MHSc Master of Health Informatics
- MHSc Master of Health Administration
- MPH: Occupational and Environmental Health
- MPH: Health Promotion
- Master of Financial Insurance.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must fulfill all six (06) requirements to be eligible for this opportunity:
- Citizenship: Be a citizen and currently living in a Sub-Saharan African nation.
- Education: Must be a graduate or a recent graduate from one of the partner institutions mentioned above.
- Graduate-level status: Have not commenced graduate-level studies yet.
- Age restriction: Must be younger than 35 years old.
- Scholarship and leadership distinction: Demonstrate strong academic achievements and established leadership capabilities.
- Dedication: Show the resolve to come back home post-graduation to aid in Africa’s progress and advancement.

Deadline for Applications
Candidates who wish to apply for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Toronto for 2026–2027 should monitor the key dates. On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, two virtual information sessions are scheduled at 9:00 AM EST and 12:00 PM EST to assist students with the application procedure.
The final deadline for submitting the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship application is November 3, 2025, by 12:00 PM (Toronto time). Candidates who succeed will be informed of their results in early December 2025, and the chosen scholars will officially commence their graduate studies at the University of Toronto in September 2026.
