The University of Essex has officially announced its International Undergraduate Scholarship for 2026–27, offering a £5,000 tuition fee reduction in the first year of study. Essex’s Undergraduate Scholarship Program for 2026

The award provides a £5,000 discount on tuition fees for qualifying students who commence their first year of undergraduate studies in the academic year 2026–27. It is offered solely for the initial year and will be directly deducted from tuition costs during enrollment at the University of Essex.

Qualified Nations and Areas

The scholarship is available to students who usually live in designated areas, including:

  • Africa – Every member state of the African Union
  • Asia (Western, Central & Northern) – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Hong Kong, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macau, South Korea, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan
  • Asia (South) – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka
  • Asia (Southeast) – Brunei, Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Laos, Malaysia, Burma, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam
  • Europe (non-EU) – Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Kosovo, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Norway, Russia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine, Switzerland.
  • The Americas and the Caribbean – United States, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Chile, along with numerous others.
  • Middle East – Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, UAE, Yemen.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for this scholarship, candidates are required to:

  • Be categorized as overseas fee payers and fully self-financed (students with loans that need repayment are deemed self-financed).
  • Be a usual resident in one of the qualifying countries for a minimum of three years prior to September 2026.
  • Enroll in the first year of a full-time undergraduate program (or directly in stages 2/3 if entering via APEL, as long as it is their initial year at Essex).
  • Merge this award with the Early Bird Discount, but not with any other scholarships from Essex.
  • Be ready to participate in university promotional activities if chosen.

Students Not Eligible

The subsequent items do not qualify for this award:

  • Students enrolled in the Pathway program at the University of Essex International College (UEIC).
  • Learners enrolled in Essex Online programs through Kaplan Open Learning.
  • Students entering via the University Transfer Link Scholarship or UG Global Transfer Scholarship.
  • Students currently benefiting from course-related discounts or complete funding from governments or external organizations.
  • Students currently enrolled who started their first year of undergraduate studies before 2026–27.

Timeline for Application

International students who qualify and enroll for the October 2026 intake at the University of Essex will be automatically considered for the International Undergraduate Scholarship, eliminating the requirement for a separate application. To satisfy the ordinary residence criterion, applicants need to have resided in one of the eligible countries from 1 September 2023 to 1 September 2026.

It is essential to mention that the scholarship is applicable solely for the 2026–27 academic year, and students who decide to postpone their admission to subsequent years will forfeit their eligibility for the award
