Fellowship Benefits & Package

- Tenure: Maximum of one academic year (can be as brief as 1–2 months).
- Stipend: Between $2,500 and $5,000.
- Facilities & Assistance: ARIT provides access to its research and study centers, along with important institutional links to peers, archives, and officials throughout Turkey.

- Location: The study will be conducted in Turkey, utilizing ARIT centers in Istanbul and Ankara as primary locations.

Eligibility Requirements
If you’re curious about your eligibility, here’s a brief overview:
- Available to researchers and advanced graduate students in the humanities or social sciences concentrating on Turkey.
- Applicants for graduate study must fulfill all doctoral requirements except for the dissertation by June 2026.
- Applicants from outside the U.S. can also apply if they live in the U.S. or Canada and hold an academic affiliation there.
- ARIT invites applicants from various disciplines – history, anthropology, archaeology, literature, philosophy, political science, art history, and others.

Research Approvals & Visas
- It is the applicants’ duty to obtain the necessary research permits and visas.
- For brief visits lasting less than three months, researchers can utilize a tourist visa and seek permits while in Turkey.
- For extended stays, a research visa needs to be secured prior to arrival.
- If you intend to engage with museum collections or libraries, you must obtain authorization from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
- ARIT might delay stipend payments if research approvals are not obtained.
How to Apply
Application Deadline
The application deadline for the ARIT Fellowships in the Humanities and Social Sciences in Turkey is November 1, 2025. Candidates will be informed of the outcomes by the end of January 2026, allowing academics sufficient time to arrange for their research visit.
