About the Oscar Sárkány Scholarship
Initiated in 2025, this mobility grant pays tribute to Oszkár Sárkány, a forward-thinking Hungarian Bohemist whose efforts advocated for a transnational and inclusive viewpoint on cultural history. Sadly deceased during World War II due to his political opposition, Sárkány’s influence endures through this fellowship—promoting essential, interdisciplinary research in the humanities and social sciences.
The fellowship promotes cross-border intellectual cooperation and supports research on Central-Eastern Europe, illiberalism in both global and local settings, academic liberty, and at-risk scholars.
Eligibility Requirements
The initiative is accessible to:
- IAS CEU Fellows for the academic years 2025 or 2026 seeking to undertake a 1-month research residency in Paris.
- Researchers from CNRS in France, employed permanently in SHS, for a research visit of 15 days in Budapest.

Significant Dates
For IAS CEU fellows applying for the mobility grant to Paris, the application period is from July 14 to September 15, 2025, with a submission deadline of 23:59 CET. Successful applicants will be notified by September 30, 2025, and the visit is planned for Spring 2026.
CNRS fellows wishing to visit IAS CEU in Budapest can apply starting July 20, 2025, with a deadline of October 15, 2025. Results will be announced by October 25, 2025, with the visit also suggested for Spring 2026.
