India Introduces New Regulations for Pakistani Long-Term Visa Holders

India has changed its visa rules for Pakistani nationals. All visas, including medical visas, are now cancelled. Long-Term Visa (LTV) holders must reapply via the e-FRRO portal by July 10, 2025.

Mandatory Re-registration

The Ministry of Home Affairs announced mandatory online re-registration. This applies to Pakistani nationals residing in India on LTVs who have not gained citizenship. This directive took effect on May 10, 2025. The government aims to verify records of foreign nationals. The deadline is July 10, 2025.

Failure to comply results in visa cancellation. Indian authorities will consider non-compliant individuals as illegal residents. Strict legal action may follow.

Essential Documents

Pakistani nationals reapplying for LTVs need specific documents. They include a copy of their current LTV and a recent passport photo. Also required are residential address proof and occupation details. A copy of their citizenship application is needed, if applicable.

Vishnukant, Inspector General of Police, confirmed the directive. He cited an official order from Pratap Singh Rawat.

Rajasthan Government’s Role

The Rajasthan government issued guidelines for Pakistani residents. They must complete reapplications within the deadline. Local authorities will assist with the online process.

Consequences of Non-Compliance

Pakistani nationals failing to reapply face visa cancellation. Legal action under the Foreigners Act, 1946, is possible. Deportation may also occur. The government will not grant extensions. It will strictly enforce the screening process.

Pahalgam Attack and Fallout

These measures follow the Pahalgam terror attack. The attack caused 26 deaths and escalated tensions. In response, India suspended all visas for Pakistanis. This included medical visas. India also suspended the Indus Waters Treaty. Pakistani military diplomats were expelled.

These actions show a severe diplomatic downturn. Travel and immigration policies are affected.

A New Era

The visa cancellations mark a major shift in India’s policy. Mandatory reapplication is now in place. Pakistani nationals in India must act quickly. As tensions rise, travel faces restrictions. The future of cross-border movement is uncertain.
