About the Taiwan Fellowship 

Launched in 2010, the Taiwan Fellowship has assisted international scholars in performing advanced studies on Taiwan, cross-strait dynamics, regional security, diplomacy, misinformation, technology policy, and global supply chains. Chosen fellows will be accommodated by Taiwanese universities or research institutions for an uninterrupted research period of 3 to 12 months in 2026.

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible candidates need to be non-citizens and:

  • Teaching staff (Professors, Associate/Assistant Professors)
  • Postdoctoral Scholars
  • PhD Candidates and Students
  • Student loans for education

Area of Concentration: Taiwan Studies, Cross-Strait Relations, China Studies, Sinology, Asia-Pacific Affairs, and associated social sciences and humanities fields.

Taiwanese Fellowship Funding Package Offers

Selected candidates will obtain:

  • Monthly Research Funding: NT$60,000 for Professors, Associate Professors, Researchers, and NT$50,000 for Assistant Professors, Postdoctoral Researchers, Doctoral Candidates/Students.
  • Round-trip economy airfare (maximum NT$60,000 for travel originating from Europe)
  • Group accident insurance (Coverage up to NT$1,000,000, which includes NT$50,000 for medical coverage)
  • Flexibility in the research timeline: 3–12 months, beginning no sooner than January 1, 2026, and concluding by December 31, 2026.

Required Document

The necessary documents consist of:

  • The filled online application form produced by the system
  • Your curriculum vitae featuring a list of publications
  • A three-page research proposal composed in English that adheres to academic standards
  • Two letters of recommendation, or one letter of recommendation and one consent letter from the top administrative authority of your institution.

How to Apply

To enroll in the 2026 Taiwan Fellowship, start by completing your online application via the official website from May 1 to June 30, 2025. Upon finishing the online application, you need to print and send your application documents by July 1, 2025, to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Prague, at Evropská 33C, 160 00 Praha 6. Make sure to distinctly label the envelope with: “Application for the 2026 Taiwan Fellowship.”
