About the Program
We are expanding our Lead Poisoning Prevention program to reduce childhood lead exposure in low- and middle-income countries. This initiative builds local expertise and strengthens health systems in Africa, Asia, and Latin America to enact effective, evidence-based policies. In Ghana, the program includes implementing field research and establishing blood lead surveillance.
Job Purpose
We are seeking a Program Manager to provide technical and operational leadership for our Lead Poisoning Prevention initiative in Ghana. You will enhance health system capacity, oversee field research, and support the design and implementation of a national blood lead surveillance system. The role involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary team and engaging high-level government stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Programmatic Leadership:
- Collaborate with a scientific team to design and implement the lead poisoning prevention program.
- Build the capacity of government and NGO staff and facilitate training for health officials, journalists, and frontline workers.
- Support the development of a surveillance framework, standardization of procedures, and ethical approvals.
- Train and monitor field surveillance teams and support policy analysis efforts.
Stakeholder Engagement & Data Management:
- Develop and maintain partnerships across health, environmental, and academic sectors, serving as a key representative for Vital Strategies.
- Monitor data collection and quality, conduct site visits, and work with epidemiologists to analyze and report surveillance data.
- Create and present technical reports and summaries for policymakers and the public to drive data-informed action.
Operations & Administration:
- Supervise a small, dispersed team and manage program logistics, contracting, and financial reporting.
- Coordinate with partner organizations and handle operational duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
- A Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Required Experience & Skills:
- Six to seven years of experience in epidemiology, environmental health, or global health program implementation.
- Proven experience supporting national health surveillance programs or managing large health surveys.
- Strong experience working with government health departments and public health facilities.
- Proficiency in data analysis software (R, Stata, SAS, Excel) and/or data visualization tools.
- Demonstrated experience conducting training and supervising small teams.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience managing complex data systems and communicating scientific information to diverse audiences.
- Familiarity with project management platforms like Monday.com or Airtable.
Working Conditions
- This is a full-time position open to Ghanaian nationals or candidates with a valid Ghanaian work permit. The role is based remotely in Accra, Ghana.
- The successful candidate will be hired through Vital Strategies’ Employer of Record.
- Willingness to travel domestically for field visits and occasionally internationally for meetings is required.
