About Instituto de Telecomunicações

The Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT), a private, non-profit organization of public interest, is a collaboration of nine institutions that do telecommunications research and development.

At the national and international levels, IT actively participates in both basic and practical research. Additionally, IT contributes to society through non-competitive consulting services, information transfer to industry, and public awareness campaigns.

IT personnel (approximately 200 PhD-equipped integrated researchers) are structured into research clusters and groups, addressing a majority of the R&D fields in Telecommunications as well as related sciences and technologies. IT hosts around 250 PhD students and approximately 200 MSc students each year.

Most Thematic Lines of IT offer advanced laboratory facilities to facilitate applied research conducted within national and international projects in collaboration with comparable research institutions globally. Every year, IT participates in over 170 projects, with approximately 30-40 receiving European funding secured through a competitive process.
