The Exploration Company is recruiting an experienced Avionics System Engineer (Radio Frequency) in Germany to support the development of Nyx, a modular and reusable orbital space vehicle designed for low Earth orbit missions.

About the Role

As an Avionics System Engineer specialising in Radio Frequency systems, you will be responsible for the end-to-end design, validation, and operational support of spacecraft communication systems. The role focuses on RF communication for low Earth orbit spacecraft, covering interactions between onboard systems and ground infrastructure.

You will work closely with internal teams and external suppliers across the full space mission lifecycle, from early design through launch and in-orbit operations.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop RF communication systems for low Earth orbit spacecraft
  • Define technical requirements and select suitable suppliers for RF equipment
  • Conduct system testing and validation, including simulations, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and post-launch in-orbit testing
  • Interface with suppliers during the design, manufacturing, and integration phases
  • Ensure compliance with international RF and space communication regulations, including coordination with agencies such as ESA, NASA, and ITU
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation covering designs, analyses, and test results
  • Support mission operations teams in diagnosing and resolving in-flight communication issues

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in RF communication system design, preferably in aerospace or satellite environments
  • Strong knowledge of RF circuit design and antenna theory for space applications
  • Proven experience in RF equipment design, testing, and validation
  • Familiarity with spacecraft communication standards and protocols such as CCSDS
  • Understanding of the space mission lifecycle, including design, integration, testing, and operations
  • Knowledge of space-qualified hardware and environmental constraints such as radiation, thermal, and vacuum conditions is advantageous
