Inclusion Africa Calls For Job Applications

Job Title: Consultancy: Document Editing and Layout Specialist

Background

The Strengthening Partnerships to Advance Disability Rights in Africa (SPADRA) project is a vital pan-African initiative. Led by a consortium including the African Disability Forum (ADF), Disabled Women in Africa (DIWA), and Inclusion Africa (IA), the project advances disability and gender rights across the continent. Initial pilot phases in Benin, Ghana, Malawi, and Zambia identified significant systemic barriers facing women and girls with disabilities, such as exclusion from education and justice, limited social protection, and pervasive discrimination.

To address these challenges, a consultant has already developed foundational Guidelines for Service Providers. This new consultancy focuses on the final technical refinement of this critical document.

Objective

This consultancy aims to provide expert technical and copy-editing services to finalize the Guidelines for Service Providers. The goal is to produce a polished, professional, and accessible document ready for dissemination to key stakeholders, including service providers, policymakers, and disability rights organizations.

Scope of Work

The selected consultant will deliver comprehensive editing and layout services for the entire 28-page document (8×10” page size). Specific tasks include:

  • First, correct all spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax errors.
  • Then, ensure complete consistency in style, formatting, capitalization, and numbering per an agreed style guide.
  • Improve sentence structure and word choice to enhance clarity, readability, and impact.
  • Also, verify factual accuracy and ensure narrative consistency throughout the text.
  • Conduct a final proofread to guarantee a polished, publication-ready document.
  • Finally, apply professional layout principles, including color contrast and image captioning, to improve accessibility for all users, including those with visual impairments.

Deliverable

The sole deliverable is a fully copy-edited, professionally laid-out, and proofread final version of the Guidelines for Service Providers document.

Duration, Management & Payment

  • Duration: The assignment must be completed within three (3) working days, to be concluded within one week of contract signing.
  • Fee: The consultancy fee is set at a daily rate of GHS 1,135, totaling GHS 3,405. Payment of 100% will be made upon satisfactory completion and delivery of the final document.
  • Management: The consultant will report directly to and be supervised by the SPADRA Project Manager based in Ghana.

Required Qualifications & Experience

We seek a highly skilled professional with the following credentials:

  • A minimum of an MPhil degree in a relevant field such as Communications, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or English.
  • Extensive experience in communications and authoring or editing publications.
  • Over five years of demonstrated professional experience as a copyeditor for strategic documents and publications intended for adoption by duty-bearers (e.g., governments, NGOs).
  • A keen eye for detail, mastery of language, and a strong commitment to accessibility standards.
  • Additional relevant skills in graphic design or accessible document creation are advantageous.
