Job Title: Auto Workshop Manager

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Auto Workshop Manager to lead our service operations. This critical role demands a leader who can drive daily workshop activities, ensure timely service delivery, and uphold the highest standards of safety and efficiency. You will oversee all workshop resources, manage inventory, implement maintenance procedures, and guarantee customer satisfaction. This position is central to maintaining the operational excellence our clients expect.

Key Responsibilities

As the Workshop Manager, you will have full operational oversight. Your primary duties will include:

  • First, you will manage all workshop jobs, coordinating both human and operational resources to meet schedules and deliverables.
  • You will oversee incoming parts and materials, managing inventory levels, processing invoices, and ensuring adequate stock of tools and equipment.
  • A core responsibility involves collaborating with business heads to provide prompt, accurate updates to clients and maintain clear communication channels.
  • Furthermore, you will receive and diligently act on client feedback to ensure complete satisfaction and service recovery when needed.
  • You will also develop and implement robust procedures for recording, filing, and storing all job-related information.
  • Additionally, you will prepare regular progress reports and proactively alert department heads to any potential delays or issues.
  • You will assist with quoting, project management, procurement, and final quality inspections.
  • You will enforce the accurate use of work orders and timekeeping systems.
  • Crucially, you will foster a strong health and safety culture within the workshop environment.
  • Finally, you will supervise staff, double-check job estimates, ensure timely material ordering, and identify training needs in partnership with HR.

Required Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned manager with strong technical knowledge:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Expert technical knowledge of automotive or heavy equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Five to seven years of relevant experience, with at least three to five years in a managerial or supervisory role within a workshop setting.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and people management abilities.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Outstanding organizational, time management, and planning skills.
  • The ability to thrive under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and handle multiple demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • High integrity, confidentiality, and a proactive, initiative-taking attitude are essential.
