The Centre of African Studies, University of Edinburgh is delighted to bring to the notice of African Students the availability of a complete scholarship for suitable female candidates from Africa to study for an MSc in Africa and International Development and thereafter Ph.D. in African Studies or, where more suitable, go directly pursue a Ph.D.
University of Edinburgh Catto MSc & Ph.D. Scholarships
Candidates who are successful will begin their studies in September 2022. These Scholarships were made viable through charitable funding from the Stephen Gordon Catto Charitable Trust and will take care of full support allowance for the one-year MSc program and continues to cater for the remaining three years Ph.D. program.
The scholarships have been modeled in a way that will help aspirants who lack the needed experience in research to successfully complete their PhDs with the knowledge gathered from their MSc education. The one-year MSc program facilitates building a bridge between undergraduate studies and Ph.D. studies.

Catto MSc & Ph.D. Scholarships Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants have to:
- Be a female who is generally a resident in an African country listed Here.
- Have acquired an amazing undergraduate degree (at least 2.1) in the social sciences from an approved university in Africa ( a Master’s degree obtained with distinction with a for applicants wishing to move into a Ph.D. without delay right).
- Must not have formerly acquired a degree from a University outside Africa (apart from current or former college students of The University of Edinburgh).
- Must show dedication to studying for a Ph.D. in African studies.
- Must show leadership ability (clearly described), and intention to maximize the impact in their studies.
- Have submitted an application to study for the MSc in Africa and International development and/or the Ph.D. in African studies at the University of Edinburgh before the end of 15 April 2022.
As indicated earlier, the main objective of the scholarship is to diversify African students who are residents of the continent to make unique contributions and critical studies to African research, this scholarship is only open to scholars normally residents in African countries.

Application Information Session
