Job Title: Managing Director

About the Role

The National Media Commission seeks an exceptional leader to serve as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the New Times Corporation. This pivotal role entails full strategic and operational leadership. You will report directly to the Board of Directors and bear ultimate responsibility for steering the corporation’s vision, performance, and growth. Your mandate is to provide dynamic leadership, foster a culture of excellence, and ensure the corporation’s sustained impact and relevance in the media landscape.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

First, you will provide overall executive leadership, coordinating and supervising all corporate operations on a day-to-day basis to ensure strategic alignment.
A primary responsibility involves implementing Board-approved policies while actively contributing to the formulation of robust, forward-looking strategic plans.
Furthermore, you will ensure the timely preparation and submission of comprehensive operational and financial reports to the Board for informed oversight.
Cultivating a positive corporate culture is essential. You will develop a management environment that promotes cooperation, accountability, high productivity, and strong labour relations.
Additionally, you will design and deploy effective systems for monitoring, controlling, and evaluating all corporate activities to guarantee efficiency and compliance.
Finally, you will perform any other relevant executive duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

A Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Mass Communication, Journalism, Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, or Management is required. Alternatively, a recognized Post-Graduate Professional Qualification with specialist industry training will be considered.
You must possess a minimum of ten years of relevant post-qualification work experience.
Crucially, at least five years of this experience must be in a senior management role within a reputable institution.
The successful candidate must be able to complete a full four-year term before reaching the compulsory retirement age of 60.

Required Competencies and Skills

Proven strong managerial, organizational, and administrative capabilities.
Extensive demonstrable knowledge of the print media industry and its evolving dynamics.
Excellent leadership and strategic decision-making skills, complemented by creativity and sharp business acumen.
Superior communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to be a collaborative team player.
Practical proficiency in relevant computer software applications for modern business management.
A solid marketing orientation and deep knowledge of media networks, particularly within the print sector.
Familiarity with key regulatory frameworks, including the Financial Administration Act, Public Procurement Act, Internal Audit Agency Act, National Media Commission Act, and the 1992 Constitution.
